Every car the shop has ever touched sits somewhere on that ladder, moving up it on its own, without a single dollar of ad spend pushing it. A shop that only stores what it sold is keeping a receipt book. A shop that stores what it measured is keeping a forecast.

The Declined Alignment Deserves Its Own Object in the Database

When a customer turns down a $120 four-wheel alignment, most shops record nothing. The reading was on a screen, the writer mentioned it, the customer said not today, and the whole exchange evaporates. That is the most expensive deletion in the building. A declined alignment should be a structured record with the out-of-spec reading attached, the vehicle, the date, the service writer who made the offer, and the customer's acknowledgment. It earns its place twice over. Six months later it is a lead nobody else in town could write, because the message can name the number: the left front toe was out of spec in March, and the inside shoulder is now wearing precisely where that predicted. And when a set of tires dies at 22,000 miles and the customer arrives convinced they were sold garbage, that same record is the shop's answer — misalignment wears tires 10 to 30% faster and can roughly halve their life, and the file shows the shop measured it, said so, and was overruled. General repair shops keep declined-work lists too, but a declined brake job is a judgment about a car; a declined alignment is a refusal in front of a printed measurement. Only one of those two things can be re-litigated with evidence.

The Tire Order Is a Sub-Pipeline, Not a Note in a Comment Field

The shop's core promise is same-day fitment, and that promise is a bet on a physical object being on a rack. When it is not — a 275/55R20 in a specific tier, a run-flat, a winter size in November — a second workflow starts and it has its own states: quoted, deposit taken, ordered from the distributor, ETA confirmed, in transit, received, fitment slot offered, fitted. Each of those transitions is a fact the shop learns at a specific moment, and each one is a message the customer should get before they wonder. The failure mode is familiar and self-inflicted: a shop takes the order, the distributor slips two days, nobody tells the customer, and the customer who was quietly waiting on a text goes and books the mobile installer instead. Holding the order as a first-class pipeline with a real ETA field is what keeps that sale in the building, and it is also what feeds the stock-out reporting the shop needs to buy better next quarter.
